Steroids Side Effects
SW Day three: The ugly side effects
Thank you for continuing to read our e-course, “Safe Steroid
Use: Guide to the perfect body”. I want to also spend this
section on side effects, since our number one goal is to eliminate
side effects. Last chapter covered
‘internal’ side effects, and health supplements to minimize
them, so this chapter we go with the ‘external’ side
effects, which can affect a steroid user’s appearance. The
three big ones are:
* Acne
* Balding
* Water Retention
* Gynecomastia aka Gyno aka “bitch tits”
We are going to spend time going over each one, and ways to minimize, if not eliminate, the effects.
Acne
Possibly the most dreaded side effect. What good is having a great
body, if your face, back and shoulders are covered in acne? There
are basic and advanced techniques to get rid of, and prevent acne.
The basics… Always keep clean. Always wear a clean shirt to the gym, and immediately change it when you are done. Always shower and wash yourself thoroughly after your workout, not doing this may alone cause acne. Use an anti-bacterial soap and/or body wash for cleaning. Change or wash your bed sheets twice a week.
For light acne… 5 grams of vitamin B5 every day, split through out the day. Soak yourself in a bath, with a half of cup of bleach mixed in. Make sure not to get in your hair. Try to hit get out into the sun. It will dry your skin out, and also make the acne less visible.
For severe acne… Visit a doctor or online pharmacy for special
medications. Accutane is one of the most powerful acne medications,
but is known for causing depression, and other serious side effects.
Consult your doctor before starting Accutane or any other medication.
Balding
Balding is something many males go through, whether they take steroids
or not. Some will accept the fact that their hair will thin/fall
out, while others, will try
to combat balding, and even try to overcome baldness. With today’s
technology it’s possible for a bald male to once again have
a full head of hair, you just have to deal with the price.
Certain steroids will cause more hair loss than others. However, steroids will not have a great affect if you will lose your hair or not, your genetics will. If it is in your genes to go bald, certain steroids will simply speed up the process. One can take a very minimal dose of a steroid, say Winstrol (stanozolol), and quickly notice the hair thinning. On the other hand, certain individuals could take triple the minimum dose, and see absolutely no hair loss or thinning.
If it’s in your genes to lose some of your hair, don’t worry, there are steps to take to minimize it. Nizoral 2% (shampoo) is known to slow down hair loss. Minoxidil was supposed to re-grow hair, but as it turns out, it does not. However, it will help slow down hair loss, which is better than nothing. Proscar, a medication, reduces the amount of DHT in circulation, which will then slow hair loss. It has even been proven to re-grow hair on some individuals. One more option which has becoming more popular as of late is Spirolactone. It is applied topically to the head, however, the smell can be rather unpleasant.
Water Retention
Water retention is noticeable, but one of the least physical side
effects to worry about. For those that don’t know, the look
of water retention is the look of being bloated, or swollen…
most noticeably in the cheeks and neck of the face. It is different
from acne and balding, because it is not a permanent side effect,
and it can be put under control rather easy.
Common Steroids Side Effects
Once you finish your steroid cycle, the water retention will slowly subside. The greatest factor in water retention is your diet. Some steroids cause more water retention than others, but your diet can keep it under control. If you are eating junk food all the time (high in sodium) you can expect to hold water. If you are on a proper, healthy diet, you won’t hold a lot of water no matter what steroids you are taking. With that being said, the following popular steroids will cause the most water retention: Sustanon, testosterone Cypionate, Testosterone Enanthate, Dianabol, and Anadrol.
Many people believe that taking an anti-estrogen (more on them later) during cycle, will minimize water ‘bloat’. Nolvadex and Arimdiex would be ideal for this.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia, or gyno, is another steroid with a lot of attention.
However, this side effect is less common, despite what you may have
read or heard. On top of that, it is very easy to get rid of. In
short, gyno is caused by changing estrogen levels from steroid use.
The easiest way to avoid gynecomastia is by taking lower dosed steroids,
and/or taking an anti-estrogen. The higher
the steroid dose, the higher the chances of getting gyno. An anti-estrogen,
such as Nolvadex or Arimdex, will prevent gyno. (Unless the gyno
is caused by progesterone, which occurs from high doses of the steroid
Deca Durabolin)
There you have it, how to reduce the most common steroid side effects.
Next topic we will get into the actual steroid use. If taking the correct steroids at the correct dosages, the chances of seen any of the side effects we discussed is very unlikely. However, everyone’s body reacts different to anabolic steroids, so nothing is certain.
Until next time,
