Default sore lower back from deadlifts

Hi

This is second time i've gotten a sore back from doing deadlifts it's not chronic but lasts 4 to 5 days. I'm doing a pyramid 5x5 routine, squats, bench flat and incline, rows and deadlifting once a week.
first time was about a 5 weeks ago i worked up to 235 my heaviest set. pain was immediate after that set. i took off lifting for about 5 days and drop my heaviest set to 220 worked up to 240 and the samething happened last thursday. i even had a trainer watch my form thursday he said it looked good.
right now i'm perplexed if anyone has a suggestion i sure would be greatful.

Are you doing squats and deadlifts on the same day? If so, there's the problem. Bad back or not, that could screw you up. Deadlifts require a strict form and if done correctly should result in a stronger lower back that's resiliant against pain of that sort. Back straight, knees bent, feet about ten inches apart and stay looking up at a slight angle.

My suggestion would be to sererate those 2 exercises and do them at least 48 hours apart from each other. Also (I'm not saying you have poor form), you may want to watch a couple video's of deadlifts that show form and then take notice of yours while doing them. I got a tip once that not only increased the amount of weight I could lift, but helped my form also and that was to look slightly up at the wall while performing the deads. That works for me with Squats too.

Back was straight too. You don't want to arch either way with your back. I really don't like how this big ogre starts by looking down at the bar and then squats down real fast, grabs it and lifts. I align my self and get into form with my hands on the bar. I put a little load on myself and then lift in a controlled manner.

Dave Tates video is EXACTLY how i bench. I just cant get the big arch. Im still workin on it. Thers nothing wrong with squatting and deadlifting the same day it just takes quite a while to get used to it. Id have to see a video to determine if thers anything wrong with your technique.

Stupidity should be painful

Crawling is acceptable. Falling is acceptable. Puking is acceptable. Tears are acceptable. Pain is acceptable. Injury is acceptable. Quitting is unacceptable

To dominate one must be physically, mentally, and spiritually stronger than their opponent. Then, domination is guaranteed.

Nobody said it was easy. No one ever said it would be this fukin hard either!

If im a danger to myself just think what the fuck I can do to you!

That deadlifting video was terrible. Dave needs to work on that vid and the douche bag in it...lol. His bench vids are good to go though. Daves not known for his deadlifting more so for his bench and excellent squat numbers

I was thinking maybe he should get used to each of the 2 seperately and build some lower back strength before combining them in the same workout. I think the goal here is to limit the pain he's in, not keep doing it until he just gets used to it. I agree that there is nothing wrong with doing them in the same day provided that lower back muscles can handle the load and form is in check. By the sound of things, I'm not sure he's a veteran with deadlifts so a little practice may be in order to build those lower back muscles. If everything was cool as is, I don't think there would be enough pain to start a thread over. Perhaps he needs some in the lower back EOD .

That guy was definitely a douchebag lol. It was like that video was the biggest achievement of the ogre's life and he wanted to be all hardcore to impress Dave lol. What was that bar??? 135lbs? And that 300+lb guy was grunting a little bit lifting it!!??? C'mon!!!!!

Agreed 100% im not trying to be a dick but by the weight hes using you may definitely be onto something in getting used to both separately. I dont deadlift and squat on the same day except for a comp , but most PLers do. Im gonna try something new later in the yr that will incorporate them on the same day once i feel my leg is back to 100%
