    Default How much Rest?

Since I have started seriously working out, I wonder when is the best time to rest. Is it better to rest every other day or is it ok to workout everyday as long as you workout different body parts? I want to go to the gym everyday but don't want to overtrain. Any advice out there?

Train every body part once a week with say 4 exercises per body part, split into 3-4 days a week mon wed fri or mon tues thur fri or similar, remember .....recovery is every bit as important as the training as is the nutrition.
stick to the big exercises and forget all the little definition exercises for about 5 years till you have somthing to define

Bump Rep, EOD is far better than ED, you need to give you're entire body chance to recover-you don't grow in the gym.

i think training depends a lot upon great diet also. What you are putting in your body, food wise, dictates that also. Some can train more than others, some grow well working a 4 day, one bodypart a week split.

Some grow well working a non stop, 7 days a week training scheme. I have a good friend who has worked out like that for over 10 years now. I mean he skips days here and there, but when he is training hard, he works 6 to 7 days a week, with great results.

You will just have to experiment, and see what best possible scenario works well for you bro....

Sorry MM but , absolutely nobody could train hard 6-7 days continually and gain anything, Even our genitic freaks who tread the boards dont train 7 days a week, 4-5 at most. You have to have time to recover.
7 days a week is The best recipe for failure and overtrainig I have ever heard!
Remember, bodybuilding is supposed to be about quality, not quantity. If you concentrate on quality in your training, the quantity will soon follow.
    LESS IS MORE.
Imagine how well that guy could do if he started using a sensibly structured routine over say 4-5 days
Dorian Yates was a 4 DAY A WEEK man.

Big bump to rep. If your intensity of training is where it should be, 4-5 days should be plenty.

thats fine reppy, maybe you can't continually grow on that training routine, but some can. There was a guy on this board that trained almost everyday, with great results. Had his training routine mapped out to almost the hour he coult train every bodypart again. I think his name was strengthlegend.

Maybe he lied, but i doubt it. My friend trained 6 days a week, almost every bodypart twice a week and had great results. He trained like that his whole life. He continually grew, even naturally training like that.

Guys this is an interesting question that doesn't really have an answer, because it depends. Depends on age, eating, sleep, supplements, training intensity, goals, type of training... there are really alot of variables here. I have been weight training very regularly for 20+ years, seriously for 5+ years and over that time I have done almost all schedules. 2adays, every other, 3xweekly, 3 on 1 off, 7 straight, 4 weekly..... You will have to try and find what works best for you. Right now and for the past couple of years I have been training Mon,Wed,Fri,Sat and it has really allowed me to avoid overtraining. I take a week off every month or so when progress goes down or I am feeling tired. I am 45. When I was 25 I lived in the gym and overtrained like a MOFO. It took me years to figure out I was wasting time. But it's all part of the experience.

yea but strengthledgend was only training one or two body part per day ..40 mins and out the gym..and took days when he felt he needed em...that is not the impresion you were giving of this friend of yours .....you got to be more more specific as it is very easy to misinterpret a post
    Thanks

You do get some genetic freaks that can grow on a 7 day a week routine, albeit for short period were most of us will just end up getting sick, but if he can grow on that, imagine how well he'd grow with adequate recovery.

    Diet and rest are paramount.
You also have to take your life into account-when you're working a stressful full time job like most of us, anything over 4 days a week, 45 minute sessions will result in over taxing your body.
If you're lucky enough that you don't have anything else to do or worry about and have no other stress, you're body is under less stress, so you can put higher demands on it from training.

I did 6-7 day weeks when I was on cycle and I gained more in those weeks than in the 4-5 day weeks. Granted it was my first cycle and I was bound to grow, but it is possible. Now that I'm off, I'm sticking to 4-5 day wks and that's about as much as I can handle. It's all dependent on the individual, some can train more and others less and with great results. You just have to find what works for you and stick to it.
