My favorite routine is: *1 drop set of 40-50 standing calve raises - start at a weight were you can only manage 10, then drop the weight 30lbs or so and do another 7 and so on & so on.... I normally cry for the next 5 days after that. Also smash em with supersets, I do all my calve work with a big range of motion too. I think 3 times a week would be a bit much for me, I do em once every 8 days.

People react differently to different gear. I was just kidding a little. Adrol works very well for me to make muscles get bigger when the calories and stress to the area is there. Everyone is a little different. If you have never tried it, you might give a chance for a few weeks. Some on the board have gotten sick from it. I never do, but Test E makes me pretty sick?

1 giant drop set of 40-50 reps, start at a weight that so that you fail at 10reps then reduce the weight by 30-40lbs and do another 6-10 reps, then reduce the weight again, then again until you've done a total of 40-50 reps. And that is your calve workout.

i believe that when it comes to calves genetics play a HUGE role. my calves suck. i have trained them hard for 12 years with minimal results. i have tried everything from super heavy to light weight (baby) and high reps, to dropsets, to training them everyday to training them once a week, nothing seems to work all that well on me. even on my first cycle here they aren't coming around as much as i had hoped. you ever heard jay cutler say how he only trains his calves once every 5 days, 3 sets, 12-15 reps? and look at his awesome calves. then you see the average joe at the beach with an below average upper build and then look at his lower half and see big o legs and nice calves. i am jealous. anyone tell i have calf envy (and leg size envy too actually)???

I had what I call flat calves. very strong but flat I believe genetics do play a roll. thats why most people look different body part wise. Now my calves are the best they have ever been where I can say I got calves, the two distinct tear drop muscles. What seemed to work for me was IGF injects into the calves. Also when I do calves whether its standing, sitting raises or on hack squat mach. I lift as heavy as I can as long as I can keep full range of motion. None of this load up the weight and move it back and forth 2 inch shit. Then I do the motion slow pausing and contracting the muscle 5 seconds at the top with a good 8-10 second negitive drop into a full stretch at the bottom. I also do part of my cardio on a stair master (rotating stairs) On this depending on my foot placment on the stair I can really exhaust my calves if I step on the balls of my feet and press up as I'm stepping. hard to explain. This seemed to work well for me especially the IGF. The IGF results seemed to be more noticable on the smaller muscle groups to me.

I do a similar routine as ssti. Very slow negative, I actually go 10-15 and explode back up. I think I got the routine from t-mag a while ago. And as ssti said, FULL RANGE of motion. I find it funny when I see guys on sitting calf raises put like 3+ plates on, and are moving their feet a couple inches. Let your heals hang as low as you can, then at the top, get as high as you can, almost up on your toes. Put light weight on, and see your range of motion. If you put heavier weight on and aren't even close to that, you went to heavy. But at the same time, for a change, you can go really heavy, with a limted range of motion. Keep changing it up, you'll find something that works best for you, then you can keep going back to it, but changing it up now and then.
I think everyone needs to find what works for them. Some prefer light weight and a ton of reps. My calves aren't huge, but I've been focusing on them more lately, and they've made improvements. For many, calves are one of the weakest parts because they are often overlooked, or skipped for various reasons. They are less noticed/used, so often don't get as much attention. It's been -40 here for the last 3 weeks, so I've been working out at home mostly. I did a calf routine, where I just did one legged raises on the edge of the stairs, really high reps. My calves have never been that sore in my life, took 6 days before they were not sore anymore. Was a nice change to the routine. I think genetics are some of it, but I think anyone can get decent calves. You ever see someone that bikes a lot or hikes a lot? Pretty much all of them have sick calves, and you can't say they all have great genetics. It's actually pretty amazing if you've ever notcied someone. They can be overweight with no definition, or underweight with little muscle, but then they have they big ripped calves. Of course for some genetics plays a role, especially the ones that stand out the most. |
