I'm not a power lifter or BB just an old man (55) who loves to lift and lift heavy. And you have to listen to what your body is telling you. I had a small tear in my left tricep and blew it off has tendinitis well on an incline warmup of 175 it ripped it wound up being a double tear. If you have any kind of pain stop and take that rest. Your body knows best..... I went from 237 at 15% bf to 214 one arm looking like a pepperoni stick,,on the rebound now lifting like a 5 th grader but will be more aware and taking that break and going liter when needed. Great article Power Man

Bump on this.
GOing through this sites "stuff". And this one is an important one. If you cant do it, atleast take 3-4 days off training, that also helps alot. I tend to take a few days off training every 4 weeks when Im in peak (atm just coming back after a long time away). But I will try to deload instead, sounds fair. But taking a few days off, always I come back STRONGER then before, and I grow so much, well..ok..but so much considering earlier progress. That does not mean anyone should think you can rest yourself to suceess. Deload sucess ONLY works well if you train HARD during normal weeks. |

Ok, I admit I'm still wet between the ears. I understand why deloading is important. That part is obvious. My question is, whats the point of doing your typical routine at 50% weight? Why not just take a week away from the gym?

Good question . Not sure if this is the right answer but its still keeping some movement as opposed to just sitting and doing nothing for a week. After full meet im usually beat up so i and many others take 3- 5 days off completely
