    Default Crossfit?

So my brother in law and some other people I know are all into crossfit, so I've been wondering what the big deal is. He tells me about it and the guy that runs the group he's in seems like a little prick. That and it's expensive makes it hard for me to understand the appeal. I've heard 100-300 per month is pretty normal as far as cost, and that seems ridiculous bc my gym membership is $35 and I have access to any gold's I want.

It seems like the crossfit people I've met and talked to seem very uppity and arrogant and will tell you again and again how training like a bb is terrible and how fun crossfit is. When I've mentioned that there's no way in hell I'd ever pay that much to workout, they always come back with some bullshit line like "you can't put a price on physical fitness, plus it's soooooooooooo much more fun than what you do." I guess they can't fathom that I enjoy lifting heavy with more traditional time tested methods. My little brother always gives me shit about how I workout and trys to school me, but he does full body workouts and runs alot. Neither of which interests me in the least.

So, is there any real value to crossfit, or is it just another fitness fad? I enjoy the way I train right now and find it rewarding, but the crossfit tards I talk to try to talk down to me about it.

I PERSONALLY DO NOT LIKE CROSSFIT.

that being said, if your looking to up your cardio and lose weight it's very good. im military and we do a crossfit session about twice a week, some of the guys that have do crossfit have then gone to the gym with me and not been worth a shit. i believe if you arent strong enough to move youre body weight around in every postion endurance doesnt mean shit and when i lift i keep my hr at the same level we crossfit for 1 hr and i hit the gym for around 2.5 hrs 4 times a week. ppl who stick w crossfit for more then a week start to get cocky cause they think that sweating for an hr makes them hardcore. put em in a ring, kick, punch and choke the fuck out of them and theyll stop thinking theyre bad. then stab them in the eye for good measure.

    Default No surprise

Crossfit is nothing more than circuit training using plyometrics, explosiveness, natural body weight, and olympic style lifts. Woopty fucking doo. All they did was put a name on a particular form of working out. If you look at just about every NCAA and Pro Athlete what do their workouts consist of? What I just named above. Do they call that shit crossfit? No. Because its not. Typically its just a phase of training thats mixed into strength, endurance, agility and speed.

Im a veteran who just recently seperated from the military and I'll tell you what, I NEVER allowed myself or any of my soldiers to take part in "crossfit". Funny thing is, most of the people that do crossfit, dont even look "fit".

Anyways, thats just my two cents. Im currently training to begin playing NCAA football so most of my workouts tend to be full body with the inclusion of some type of cardio afterwards wether it be drills, sprints or HIIT on the treadmill or eliptical. Oh how I love the world of fitness....The sky is the limit!!!!

One more thing... Tell those crossfitters, who probably do Zumba afterwards, that being an Iron Addict is what seperates the strong from the weak.

    Yours respectively,

Amazing, they think they're superior and hard core. I think you should stop talking to those people b/c they're pricks. Tell them to go to an MMA gym if they want real fitness.

Any exercise that elevates the HR is good and any exercise that brings a muscle to failure is good. Do what you like and leave them to their fad workout. Step aerobics were the rage in the 90's, Tybo was the rage in early 2000's now it's crossfit. It will pass like all the others.

So you guys basically confirmed what I already suspected. The crossfit tards always tell me that training like a bb is useless b/c it doesn't have any practical use in athletics, which isn't completely true. I don't play any sports anymore, so training to play sports doesn't make sense, just like it wouldn't make sense for a marathon runner to follow my regimine.

Oh well, not everybody understands bb and what it's all about. I love when you hear people try to dismiss it as just a buncha dudes on gear like that's all there is to it. I guess that's why bb isn't as popular as other sports.

Technically BB is a sport. All sports require competition. Crossfit is for fitness, unless there are "Crossfit Competitions" that i haven't been informed of. That alone puts you an echelon above the rest.

A crossfit workout is gtg for general fitness and for getting a full body workout. Essentially, you're shocking the system w/different dynamic exercises.

It's a good workout to break a plateau in training for any sport IMO. The other aspect of the crossfit programs I've seen is the competitive angle. You compete against the others in the class each time and cumulatively over time. That's pretty cool IMO.

Yes, the crossfit chicks are generally pretty hot with great athletic physiques. That alone is almost enough to get into it, but I'll stick with the heavy iron. Check this thread out if you dig athletic chicks:athletic girls naaaaooaoaooaooaooooooo - Bodybuilding.com Forums Lots of crossfit girls in there as well as fitness competitors.

I've been doing some reading and it seems that crossfit does have its place for those that are training for specific athletic applications, but not really a worthwhile thing if you're into bb. It might be a good alternative for when you're dieting tho due to the cardio, but I dunno if maintaining mass is very feasible with that kinda program.
