Mass Tab Causes Stroke in 17-Year-Old Football Player?
Mass Tab is a prohormone supplement marketed to help users gain size and strength. Unfortunately, the makers of this product are in a heap of controversy after the product was linked to allegedly causing a stroke in a 17-year-old football player who used the product and then fell ill! “The manufacturers of Mass Tab have engaged in what appears to be fraud and reckless and negligent marketing of a bogus bulking supplement that contained a steroid,” said Greg Davis, attorney for the young football player, who filed a lawsuit in state court today. “The manufacturers failed to test and to warn the public of the known risks of its product, insidiously marketing it as having ‘low side-effects.’” So Here Goes The Story According to the complaint, Jacob Bray, a 17 year old athlete, purchased Mass Tab from the Supplement Shak in Oklahoma. He used the “supplement” over the course of several weeks. On January 31, 2008, he was weightlifting and immediately after doing a lift had a severe headache, which he terms as “an instant migraine,” and was disoriented. He was driven home by a friend and was still disoriented so he placed an icepack on his head, and took some Tylenol. When the headache seemed to intensify, his mother made an appointment with a neurologist and an MRI/MRA was ordered, at which time it was discovered that he son had suffered a stroke! “My heart sank when I was told my son had suffered a stroke,” said Mrs. Bray. “The profiteers who sell hidden steroids in unhealthful ‘health’ supplements must be held accountable for their irresponsible conduct. For heaven’s sake, my son is just a teenager with his entire life before him.” Her attorney added, “Jacob was never informed about the extremely dangerous and sometimes lethal effects of steroids contained in dietary supplement products like Mass Tab.“ Mass Tab is a supplement marketed by IDS Sports, Supplement Synergy and Challenger Holdings. Mass Tab appears to have been pulled recently from the market but could be sold and marketed under a new name. Mass Tab contains, as one of its active ingredients, Stenbolone, which is a steroid launched in 1963 by Syntex, a pharmaceutical company no longer in business that was based in Mexico City. It is sad I know ....but its always easy to blame the steroid connection ....it always gets the blame. my O2 rep PS) I wish the young fella a quick recovery tho.

the typical american way, blame someone else, it can possibly be the individual's problem. Like steaming hot coffee...some moron spills it and burns themselves as they are a clutz, and they sue McDonald's and win. Unbelievable that there is no personal responsibility and accountability any more.

My personal favorite is that guy whose son commited suicide (shown in Bigger, Stronger, Faster) The kid was taking steroids, OK, but guess what else he was taking... Anti-depressants. So - the guy's logic is that "steroids killed my son", completely ignoring the fact that A) anti-depressants are known to cause suicidal thoughts B) just the fact you're taking anti-depressants means that there is something going on with you. Now, I am not mocking his son's death in any way - that's a horrible tragedy no parent should experience, but c'mon... be real and look at the facts.

Figured since you guys pretty much summed up all my possible reactions already that I would post this profile I found on Stenbolone in case any of you were also wondering what it is:
This-steroid has not been manufactured since the late 1980's. How-ever, we still would like to discuss it in a few sentences since it was such a popular steroid, with many potential customers even today Stenbolone was introduced on the market in 1963 by Syntex, the that produced the popular steroids Anadrol, Oxitosona (o.c.), and Anapolon. It is therefore not surprising that Stenbolone has an application similar to the other three compounds. Syntex developed Stenbolone as a mild alternative to the toxic same company Anadrol. And the company was successful because Stenbolone is neither liver-toxic nor does it aromatize, and it is only slightly an-drogenic. In addition, it has a similar effect to Anadrol in cases of anemia with abnormal blood formation since it increases the num-ber of red blood cells. For this reason Stenbolone is especially suit-able for competing athletes since it accelerates regeneration when dieting. Competing body builders in the weeks before a champi-onship often experience a catabolic phase and a condition of over training. Stenbolone rapidly and reliably counters this and helps to obtain a good form since it does not draw water and does not increase the estrogen level. For the buildup of strength and mass, however, Stenbolone is by far not as suitable as Anadrol, although some erroneously call it an injectable Anadrol. Stenbolone has lower anabolic and androgenic effects than the oral version and it leads to a slow but solid muscle gain along with a moderate strength gain. For this purpose it is preferred by women and ste-roid novices, and by older athletes who obtain satisfying results without the fear of significant side effects. Despite this, Stenbolone is, above all, I a competition steroid which is confirmed by the American "Steroid Guru" Daniel Duchaine in his book Underground Steroid Handbook 2: "This is an excellent steroid to use while diet-ing..." Since the substance is in acetate form it has only a low half-life time so that frequent and regular injections are necessary in order to ob-tain sufficiently high and constant blood level values. For optimal results Stenbolone is normally taken daily and injected at least ev-ery 2 days. The usual weekly dose for athletes is 200-300 mg. For this reason the 50 mg strength is often preferred and the athlete either injects the entire one-milliliter ampule daily or limits the use to half of it. Women normally do well with 100- 150 mg/week and should divide their weekly dosage into three equal parts. The poten-tial side effects are low since the compound is well tolerated by the liver and edemas, gynecomastia, and high blood pressure do not occur. Cases of acne and increased aggressiveness in men are low and rare, as is a reduction in the body's own hormone production. Virilization symptoms in women also occur rarely and for the most part in very sensitive persons when high dosages are given or when the intake interval lasts over several weeks. There are no fakes on Stenbolone, so neither the original compound nor an imitation can be found on the black market. |

When I was 17, there was no way my parents could have kept tabs on me like that. At 17 you're driving and can stash whatever you want wherever you want. When you were 17, were your parents aware of all that you did? Probably not. Rather than blame the parents, how about the store clerk?

And again - this is not to say that this product had anything to do with the stroke. But just the fact that a lot of people say "Ugh, I didnt' know it was steroids - if I did I woulnd't have taken it" crap... Allow them to put the damn thing on the label, say "This product contains steroids. Steroids can cause increased BP and in susceptible persons it may increase chance for a stroke or heart attack" and be done with it. Just like they put warnings on peanuts (yeah, they can kill you if you have a certain condition) Last edited by trogdor; 10-23-2009 at 10:44 AM. |
