NPC bodybuilder arrested – largest steroid bust ever in Austin, TX

What do you get when you mix a National Physique Committee bodybuilder with a fetish for guns, suicidal tendencies, a buttload of steroids, and leave him alone in his apartment for weeks at a time? I have no idea, but in this particular case, you get Damon Beshears, 38, a competitive bodybuilder from Texas, who had previously taken 5th place (novice) at the Ronnie Coleman Classic in 2007, followed by a first place finish (novice middleweight) at The Heart of Texas Bodybuilding, Figure, and Fitness Championships, and finally a 6th place finish as a light heavyweight at the Ronnie in 2008. He was arrested in possession of raw steroid powders, around 5,000 tabs, and 240 vials of anabolic steroids.

In addition, he had a pretty typical Underground Lab set up in his apartment (powders, etc…), but also had a good supply of guns (semi-auto rifles, etc..), a ballistic vest and a Kevlar helmet, and told the investigators that his plan was to kill as many officers as possible, and then himself, if he ever got busted. And, given his fairly large cache of guns (or if you’re from Texas also: his perfectly reasonable and Constitutionally protected cache of guns), he was arrested outside his home, as he walked to his car.

As happens with most NPC bodybuilders who get busted for steroids, he was narked out (I’m guessing by another bodybuilder).

He had been selling steroids online (no idea what his lab name is…help from readers would be appreciated), and mailing them throughout the country, and manufacturing the stuff from raw hormone powder that he had imported from China.

Damon, if you’re reading this, I don’t care what anyone says, that’s a really cool tattoo of a gun that you have on your chest.

Hell yeah he had a serew loose way before AAS, just like the other 10 -20 guys who give this a bad name, ( most of whom wrestled or played football)for instance the wrestler Chris Benoit( he killed his wife, son then himself), after his autopsy they said he had over 90 blunt traumas to his brain ( im guessing from gettin chairs busted over his head) they were all nuts already

I personally don't believe shit that I read anymore fellas. People say dumb shit all the time and don't fucking mean it. I don't think anyone knows him personally on here but he could of been talking shit to an undercover he thought was a friend and was buying shit from him. Sure its stupid to talk shit like that but I highly doubt its like it states in the article. I would bet anything that statement wasn't made at the time of his arrest but as bullshit conversation to someone he thought was a friend trying to make himself look like something he isn't.

I agree 100% its so fuckin stupid but done all the time. I've had conversations I meant 100% to be funny or even quoted shit I've heard in movies that is now held against me in Court. I may of thought the person was a very good friend who actually has the same raw humor but turnes out to be a Gov. C/I or the phone call was recorded and the Feds don't find it fucking funny at all.

This is talk and only talk, nobody deserves to be the whipping boy for the Government because AAS arrest are on the rise and or their job requires that your made an example of.

Its so easy to make a case that the Government will destroy the target of the investigation to the fullest. Trust 100% if your the target your fucked. I'm being charged with a 5 year mandatory 924-c gun charge along with my AAS case. Reason: The guns are near the drugs and now related.

Now I'm of course happy to be the only one charged but it shows truth if your names on the top of that paper your getting charged with the full boat. You don't want your friends spending on day in jail but if they have the same charges and same access to weapons I argue the Governments charges are unjust and being used only as a Political tool to justify over a million in spending to arrest a low level AAS user that they labeled DRUG KINGPIN.

Its unfortunate how the media can twist the truth and its unfortunate how most of you believe what you read or hear. To Iron Diva, you have no idea. He obviously trusted you to reach out to you for help. Its unfortunate that you speak these ill words about him. Why did you begin dating him? You dated him because of the person you knew he was and IS! To Countess, he is the same person you knew when he was 21. You are correct, when you mix steroids with prescribed medications such as Ambien (which he was taking) to help him sleep, the mind can play games. Ambien plus the other meds can cause sleep walking, which is why he made the comment. He was never kicked out of the psych ward. Let’s get that correct! I can also tell the story and who he is. The portrayal that has been made is not the person behind bars. Yes, he is guilty of selling steroids to consenting adults. Guns - there were 3 of them, all registered. I know many people who have a lot more in their homes. To the reporter, the word “fantasize” is the wrong word to use. He did not fantasize about any of this. They were dreams and was told to write a journal of those dreams by his doctor so they could figure out what was going on. There are SO many other things that I could say to offset these articles because there IS another side of the story. Its unfortunate I can’t go into the details. I will say, Damon has a huge heart who raised 2 wonderful boys who are very considerate of others. He is very intellectual, caring and just wants to know why he has the night terrors. This may have been caused with taking steroids and the prescription medications. He was never out to hurt anyone. That is why he was seeking help. Look up night terrors for adults. We all make mistakes, some more than others. Don’t assume until you know both sides of the story. So far, you’ve only heard and read one.

It stated he was "left alone in his apartment for weeks at a time"...really?? He's a bodybuilder on steroids...they don't stay home for weeks. He was at the gym everyday!

Trust me, there are 2 sides to EVERY story! All of you on this forum have only heard what they have written. Don't believe everything you read. It could be YOU. He sold steroids to consenting adults, that's what he did. Unfortunately, it's illegal. Hopefully one day, you will learn the other side of the story, the actual truth.

Very good post and my prayers are with Damon. I thank you for sticking by your friend like a real person while he's down and out. I personally respect & love each one of my brothers and sisters that have stuck by my side during everything myself and family are going threw.

Thank you Keith. Damon is one of my very good friends. They have portrayed him as this crazy person and he is not. I assure you, that is not who is he is. I have known him for many years and yes, i knew about his doctor visits, his medications and so forth. I hope everyone understands when you begin mixing steroids with prescription medications such as Ambien, Thorazine and 5 more meds...there is a chemical imbalance, especially when your doctor has no clue your on that stuff. I came onto this forum this evening because I'm tired of reading all the negative remarks when no one knows the truth. I just want everyone to know, please don't judge a person by what you read. Any of you could be in his shoes.

TBT, I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2008 its one of the worst diseases to live with. It is very wrong even to call it a disorder because its not and several are fighting this point everyday. Its Post Traumatic Stress Disease. i have had some of the sickest dreams anyone could ever fucking imagine from what I've been threw in my life and they have nothing at all to do with Steroids. I didn't one day almost get killed and all of a sudden the Steroids made me keep dreaming of that event. I dream about it because it a Stressor #1 meaning its something the average human doesn't face everyday even during a job which you may risk your life everyday.

Damon could of had any serious event effect his life more than anyone realizes and it eats him apart daily, not because of steroids or Ambien but because he's a human and we all react different to things.

If someone told me to put down how I felt everyday on paper and then held it against me in Court....WTF. If I wrote down my dreams on paper? WTF.

I'm hoping he's Lawyer can clear these issues up, this is classified Hipaa information between himself and his DR.
