Default Frying Foods on Palumbo Diet

I've been following this diet for a couple months now, seen great results but I think I may be doing something wrong. The diet recommends the intake of some type of oils for essential fats (olive and/or macadamia).

Can one use this oil to fry your food, like say your steak or chicken?

Well are you dipping your meats in a flour or corn meal batter? I use the Olive oil in just about all my meats i cook in a skillet, even my eggs. I use no batter.

No flower or batter, just a table spoon of olive oil to cook my 8oz steak/chicken.

    Is it ok?

You need to keep the heat a little lower or it will breakdown the oil making it unhealthy.Europeans add their olive oil towards the end of the frying(unlike most americans who put the oil in first). I believe peanut oil can handle the higher heat

The Verdict? As long as you're using fats and oils sparingly in your cooking and preparation, it would be fine to use any one of the following "good" oils. All of the following oils are low in saturated fats and trans fats. Some have high concentration of monounsaturated fats such as olive oil. Choose corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, soy oil or canola oil if you wish to fry foods as these oils have higher smoke point. It is best not to fry with olive oil as its smoke point is only about 190C/375F.

    Good Cooking Oils:

    canola oil
    flax seed oil
    peanut oil
    olive oil
    non-hydrogenated soft margarine
    safflower oil
    sunflower oil
    corn oil
The following "bad" oils contain high percentage of trans fat or saturated fats. Some, such as coconut oil, even contain more saturated fats than animal products!

    Bad Cooking Oils:

    Vegetable shortening
    Hard margarine
    Butter
    Palm oil
    Palm kernel oil
    Coconut oil

    Default Controversial topic

There seems to be two different and opposite views on which type of fat is best. Main stream medicine endorses unsaturated fat as the healthier of the two claiming high cholestrol as the culprit behind things like heart disease. Other sources usually more independent, are proponents of saturated fat consumption who say it's necessary for production of stuff like hormones, nerve sheathing and cell membrane. In opposition to main stream ideology they claim that most heart attack victims don't have high cholesterol and it's more of an inflammatory issue. I personally believe that's the truth lies somewhere in the middle of these two extremes and both types of fat are healthy if consumed in good proportion. For sure you don't want burn either one when cooking. It is unhealthy and also tastes like shit imo. All things in moderation is a good MO I think. Good luck and enjoy!

    ....Cheers

Supp, very helpful advise. Well i guess i'm going to stop frying my foods like i was doing before (throwing the oil first waiting until it heats then add the meats) i mean i was lossing wait but i think i'm suppose to be doing so at a faster rate. I will do the change and hope for the best, Thanks.
