So just olive oil (this is efa hey?) with 48g casein, 24-48g whey, mixed with milk... Should I bump up it up to the 48g whey seemings I'm going to bed for at least 8 hours. A total of 96g protein to be released slowly over 8+ hours.

Totally fine bro, you could also throw in some ole' fashioned oats to that mix! Heres a lil something for ya to check out.

Milk is an excellent source of complete protein (containing all 9 essential amino acids which are required to meet our physiological needs), one of the primary sources of bone-building calcium for adults and also a treasure-trove of vitamins (especially D and K).

So if 24 ounces of milk are all you need in a a day, is there any specific reason to get 8 of those ounces just before going to bed at night?

1.Casein absorption: Almost 80% of the protein found in milk is in the phosphorus-containing form known as casein – a complete protein. Casein is hydrophobic (literally “scared of water”) and so it is not soluble in water but instead appears in milk as a suspension – and for this reason it is also called “Micellar Casein” (separated without the use of chemicals). The human body, however, processes casein a little uniquely. Unlike whey (another dairy protein) which the body can absorb very fast, Micellar Casein takes a while to be absorbed into the cells and so its processing is not a high priority task for the body. Milk consumed during the day will still slowly get you the protein, but when consumed at night it gives the body the best chance of maximum absorption. You can read a good description of Micellar Casein at N101.

2.Tryptophan: Remember those 9 essential amino acids I keep harping about? Well, turns out one of those is the sleep-inducing tryptophan. If you are wondering where you have heard that before, it is the same chemical found in turkey leading people to feel sleepy after a hearty Thanksgiving dinner. Of course scientists point out that tryptophan works best on an empty stomach and so it would be wise to give a gap of atleast 1-2 hours between dinner and your glass of milk!

3.Controlled snacking: With an 8 oz glass of milk reserved to be your final snack of the day, you are that much less likely to indulge in a heavier, diet-crashing, cake/cookie/pastry snack when hunger hits at bed-time. Your trusted elixir will keep you well satiated.

4.Get to 24 ounces: I don’t know about you but with a full-schedule day, I find getting 24 ounces of milk a pretty difficult goal to achieve. Even if you ensure 8oz in the morning and somehow manage another glass during the day, you are still likely to fall short of your target. Unless you make the bedtime glass of milk a regular habit.

5.Calcium: What better time to get some calcium into your system than when your body most needs it to build strong bones and damaged muscles caused by exercise? Remember you don’t build your body in the gym – you build it when you sleep/rest.

So true. After I was abusing my stomach and eating whatever, whenever, at 30 years old it finally fought back lol. Now I get heartburn and I'm trying to manage it.

If you want cheap 100% casein, trueprotein is the way to go.

    I like Cytosport's 100% casein the best:

    COMPLETE CASEIN CHOC 2.05LB - Supplement | Massnutrition.com

Optimum Nutrition 100% casein is good tasting as well. All 100% casein powders are thick and chalky to some extent. I like to mix a scoop with syntha 6. Syntha mixes very easily, tastes awesome, but less than 50% of the calories are from protein. When mixed evenly with a 100% casein product, the macros come out in a healthy range.

If I didn't eat for four hours before bed I would not be able to sleep with the hunger pains. Everyone is different. I eat a big meal before bed usually eggs and beef and a little slow carbs. I wake about two AM and I eat another small meal. When I get up at six AM I make a mad dash to the frig for a protien shake and a glass of oj. If I didn't eat like that I would be catabolic.

Bump to that! 4 hours is kind of a long time. Especially when your'e eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. Personally, I think 1 or 2 hours is sufficiant enough. Just enough to let the food settle. I kind of do the same thing when I wake up in the middle of the night. Cept' I usually take a sustained release protein then go back to bed for a few. MHP's Probolic SR seems to work for me cause it has all fast AND slow time released proteins. When I wake up around 5 or 6am my stomach feels tight and thin but my muscles feel pumped.

i think its ok as long as you dont have any carbs. the carbs will give you a little insulin spike, and if insulin is present your body wont release your natural growth hormone. i think i could be wrong.

Rearguards of what it is, I have to eat within a couple hours before I sleep. If I do not then it takes me longer to get to sleep and I don't get a solid night sleep. I find it more worth it to get a good night sleep than to worry about how much I take in right before bed.

In the end if I don't get enough sleep then my workouts the next day aren't very productive.

depends on your goals. if your trying to bulk than you need to eat constantly. if your training you'll not gain much fat. if your not wanting to gain fat, than no you don't want to eat before bed. the people that shouldn't eat before bed probably don't train either. it also depends on what your eating before bed.

I generally eat last meal an hour or two before bed and 99% of the time it will be eggs found this great way to keep hunger at bay during the night and not consuming many carbs usually 0g unless i add milk and scramble them.
