Thumbs down Can anyone believe this diet?

    What the hell?

I read this article about Olympic swimmer Michael Phelp's diet.

The guy looks like he has about 6% body fat.

    12,000 calories a day.

This can't be healthy, I don't care how much
    swimming/working out you do.

IMHO this "diet" is totally f**ked, and he wins
8 zillion gold medals it won't change my mind.

    Thumbs up high level

swimming burns more energy than any other sport (workout) there is, you use every muscle you have, at that level he needs to eat like that or he will not have the energy...........believe me all that food is being burned as energy.......plus he doesn't do this year around..........hes fine

    Okay, if you say so.

    Still freaked me out, though.

    Bon Appetite,

He is also about twenty years old, so his metabolism is racing. When I was twenty I could, and did, eat all I wanted and still couldn't gain a pound of muscle. I was playing college football and always was looking to addd muscle and strength. It wasn't until my metabolism slowed down at about age 30 that I was finally able to add bulk. If you look closely at his diet, he covers all the nutrional basics, then adds whatever he wants. This way he gets his vitamins, minerals, protein, etc. and the rest is simply burned as kcal. It is amazing what you can do when you are young, train six hours a day, and have great genetics.

Now he afford filet mignon, as I see Nike signed him to a $90 million deal the day after the eighth gold medal.

    I think that it's great.
A perfect example of why you don't need lots of fancy food to train.
I could not even eat close to that even if I did swim 5 hours a day.

But good for him if he can get away with it.

Amazing he can eat with that jacked up grill of his. Has a rough time even talking, trips over his teeth (severe malocclusion)

    Awesome to watch swim though.
