Interesting article I found on another site. Enjoy.
Negative calorie food is a bit of a misnomer. There is no food in existence that contains negative calories; every food has some caloric content, however minute it may be. However, certain foods, when eaten, require more energy from your body to digest than the calories that they contain. Negative calorie food offers great nutrition, as well as the possibility of helping you lose weight simply by eating. A negative calorie food diet is based on the idea that certain foods, mostly plants, are difficult to digest because of their cellular composition, i.e., cellulose. Everything that you do – sleeping, breathing, blinking your eyes – requires a certain amount of energy, and eating is no exception. This energy is created by burning calories. Your body requires on average 150-250 calories to digest your food, depending on your weight, gender and activity level. If you eat a negative calorie food that has a caloric content of 100 calories, you will actually burn more calories than you ingest. Because negative calorie food is harder to digest, your body will require more than the average 150-250 calories to digest the food. Example: A piece of dessert consisting of 400 calories may only require 150 calories to digest by our body, resulting in a net gain of 250 calories which is added to our body fat ! On the other hand, a 5 calorie piece of celery may require 150 calories to digest, but resulting in a net loss of 145 calories from our body fat! Here is a list of negative calorie foods: Vegetables: carrots, broccoli, beets, cucumber, chili peppers, chicory, celery, endives, lettuce, cabbage, green beans, garlic, asparagus, turnip, spinich, radish, onion, zuccini, and bean sprouts. Fruits: oranges, apples, strawberry, watermelon, raspberry, pineapple, peach, blueberry, cranberry, cantaloupe, grapefruit, honeydew melon, lemons, lime and mango. Note that juicing or mincing can tip the scales and make a negative calorie food into a positive one! Where possible, the skin should be eaten too. Another thing to remember, negative calorie foods are eaten in their natural state, if you cook, add butter, and other things to them it changes the caloric makeup of the food. Now regardless of whether this diet helps the user to effortlessly lose weight, negative calorie foods are packed full of vitamins and minerals. Many of them contain antioxidants, and some are believed to prevent disease. Even if negative calorie food is not the wonder diet it is thought to be, it is still a very healthy way to eat. But there are two reasons I advocate them for a BB trying to diet. 1: Frequent feedings rev up the metabolism, if the food consumed is not adding calories to my daily total, I get a double benefit. 2: Volume. I get to eat more, which takes up more space, so I'm less hungry. Example of real world application: Carbs taken upon waking Immed followed by a wkt And the entire rest of the day's carbs in the 3 hour window following that wkt. Rest of the day would be protein, healthy fats and carbs from negative calorie foods. |
