I'm a few years behind you, but not much.
I got hooked on death metal when a friend of mine loaned me the Slayer "Hell Awaits" cassette. It was the last day of my eighth grade year. I will never forget how amazed I was at the opening riff. Up to that point, KISS was the heaviest thing I knew. Don't get me wrong, KISS is good shit, but Slayer is a whole 'nother level.
