Hi guys, i have this short story... back in the days when i was young and new to bodybuilding, i trained for few months and got stronger, eventually benching one plate. i had to stop for a while then when i got back to training i couldn't do the one plate for enough reps and in good form. but since i was training with a friend, my pride wouldnt let me go lighter so i compromised form....
to make a long story short, for few workouts i was bouncing the bar off my chest to get couple more reps. and since my chest wasn't developed, i guess my rib cage took some beating. i didn't notice anything wrong then. after some time (weeks or months i can't recall), i noticed my chest would cramp up occasionally. to relieve the discomfort i twist my chest from side to side. it would crack and the cramping goes away (kinda like when we crack our Knuckles) over 5 years went by, and the same problem still there. you guys think its something serious and i should look into it?? any opinions? |

Do you really not know what to do. I mean yeaaaaaaa duhhhhhhh.... Im pretty sure you are a resonable mature man and know when you should go in a maybe get a chest ex-ray and tell the doc that you for many years was using improper form. so no i dont think i will give you an answer to this qoute by you........[[ you guys think its something serious and i should look into it?? any opinions?]]
I think you can answer that yourself. Now go do the right thing............ |

guys, guys, it wasn't painful at any point, and i used bad form for just few workouts, a month tops. and its not like i feel it all the time, like i said it feels like when you wanna crack your Knuckles. not painful, not frequent, not getting worse... and never stopped me from doing anything or feeling any discomfort. i never feel it when lifting weights or anything like that, mostly when i'm not doing any physical activity like when sitting or sleeping.
but thanks for the concerns lol. of course if i felt pain i would be talking to a doctor... i just thought maybe someone had something similar. |

Supaman, the sternum is easier to seperate than you think. And an old injury can be decieving because it is not that painful.
When I was alot younger, like 9 years old, my parents put me into gymanstics. One day i was doing handstands and walking around on my hands and i STUPIDLY walked off the mat. After about a minute and a half, my arms started to shake and gave out. My head slammed into the floor and my chin slammed into my sternum. After about 15 minutes my chest started to feel tight and i could not raise my arms. i was taken to the doctors for x rays. Geuss what....seperated sternum. Within a day or so, all pain was gone, i didn't even remember that i had the injury until about 5 years later when I began weight lifting at 14 years old. But this time it felt different. Didnt really feel too painful, just noticed it was cracking, and felt tight. ( the best way that I can describe the pain is when you are young and have a loose tooth and you twist it out. )Nothing extremely painful, but you know its there. I was not in agony, but because of the cracking/ popping...I went to the doctors and got x rays.....geuss what....seperated sternum. This injury has not stopped me from lifting...and on occasions I will feel that tearing fealing and popping sound when i really push it hard. As far as what the doctors say....a seperated sternum is more common in athletes and bodybuilders than alot of people would think. Infact, most people dont even know that they have it. Most associate it with just muscle soreness in the chest. After all, your sternum is only held together in the front by cartilage. And the odds that a guy pressing 500 pounds tearing some cartilage in his chest is pretty good. It doesn't hurt to get it checked out. For the most part, it is not as dangerous as you would imagine. But......if by some horrible mishap....your ribcage, begins to invert....then you will be in serious trouble. The ribcage that is supposed to protect your organs would then be pressing against them. Ie...heart and lungs....things you want to keep healthy. I like to go to the doctors whenever i feel something is out of the norm. One time my sternum overlaped itself because i wasnt training back and my chest muscles overpowered my back muscles and gave me a hunched over posture.....leading to an overlapped sternum. The crazy part is....that the doctors can set it back and you will actually see your sternum move back into place and it isn't painful at all. To combat this, i always train back now the day after chest. |

for me, i never had any kind of pain or weakness or anything like that from it. it just tightens up sometimes and when i twist it pops and goes back to normal. i noticed that i only feel it when i am recovering between workouts. meaning if i am working out i don't feel it, and when i don't workout i don't either. its just in between workouts, maybe casue the rib cage readjust after engaging the chest muscles i dunno. the reason i asked is becasue over the years i have accumulated a lot of passive injuries that at the time didn't really require me to see a doctor, u know the type that's not serious to check it out, but after some years you notice it's not going away. and now i am left with quite a few lol. so if i go to a doctor i don't know where to begin ![]() shoulders, elbow, ankles, etc.. don't get scared hahaha but most of them are mild and don't prevent me from lifting weights ot whatever. and if you are wondering why i am not doing anything about it, it was mostly financially related, doctors aren't cheap. but i hope this year i could fix whatever is fixable. i have had the same chest cracking for some time now also. I also get a cracking noise in my back when i am laying down and take a deep breathe. Due 2 my job i get physicals and x rays every year and never had ne thing separated, dislocated, broken in my chest or back area. I know what u mean because there is no pain involved, it actually feels good to crack it. mayb how fluid builds up in our knuckle joints the same thing could b happening in the chest. im far from a doctor so im not diagnosing but i know exactly how u feel.

Though I don't have it in my chest, as of the last few months, I am having the same thign in my back. Of course cracking a back is a little more common then a chest, but I'm feeling the same. I would never crack my back in the past or have problems. But all the sudden it needs to be cracked allthe time, it starts to get really tight throughout the day, and all I have to do is lean back, arch my back, and it will crack in several places. Probably not good, but I don't know what else to do. Chiropractor really didn't say much about it, but it was possibly the muscles causing it.

as far as the back is concerned, i always have that. my upper back isn't very straight, a but hunched over since i was a kid, *see how skinny i was lol*
so back tightening up and all what follows, i'm used to it. can something be done to correct it, haven't really looked into it. |
