Default Vacuum Pump

Well as I wander on my quest to become an efficient home brewer....lmao...I picked up a sweet little vacuum pump off ebay. Same pump that RLS sells.

Brand new in the box, shipped to my door....$80.00....filtering just got a whole lot easier. RLS has a kit that will convert a vacuum pump or peristaltic pump into a rig that can filter 6 specimens at the same time!!!

I'm currently in the running for a peristaltic pump as well....couldn't pass up the vacuum pump tho.

Pump is 1.5cfm 1/6th hp...

This is the pic off eBay....I'll post actuals when I have the baby doing her job!

I'm done gloating...

I definately will keep everyone up to par! I just like gadgets and things that make life easier. I own a small company with my wife and am always finding ways to buy more stuff! Always wanted to be able to brew 4 - 5 compounds at once and filter/cap everything in a couple of days. I'm still pushing towards an autoclave/pressure cooker for sterilization needs. Who knows...

If ya look around, there are lots of deals in different places. I just like the score...kind of a habit of mine!

Thats the same setup I have. I use the nalgene complete filter units with the nylon filter membrane. All you have to do is attach the hose from the end of your vacuum to that nipple on your filter top and pump your vacuum until you get enough vacuum to create a slow steady dripping through the filter into your bottle.

If its the disposable Naglene filter units with the plastic disposable receiver flasks, be careful not to set the vacuum pressure too high or the recevier flask will crack. I've cracked them a couple of times with a hand pump.

Nice set up-want to get one of those as well and am toying with the idea of getting a crimper to crimp my own vials.
