Default The Protein Debate

Ok, so I'm sure some of you have heard this b4 but I wanna see what you guys think....
Just read in Mens Health (june issue) that a study by [some college I can't remember] found that there is no point in taking more then 26 grams of protein at one time. Supposedly that is all the body can process at one time and anymore is said to be wasted. Now I know I take in way more then that...As i am sure most of you do as well. I've heard this b4 and continually dismiss it. But figured I'd see what you guys had to offer

Absorbtion rate is based on your body's need for protein, so obviously a skinny lazy douchebag would not be able to absorb as me a 225 pound dude who hits the athletics hard..... So my statement to all is show me a 245 pound monster that takes in less then a gram of protein per pound, and then I will take less protein in...... Later

Yes im sure that article was meant for whey. I always combine protein sources
1 example
cottage cheese
4-6 ozs. of meat
20-25 grams of whey
Post workout i do 30-40 whey and 25 casein

ya exactly so you have the slow release of the cassein, and the quick release protein which works well... Thats why true protein is great u can customize your own blend, so you cam make it that way

Great points by all, especially Zids and Suppy.

It all comes down to how hard you are training and how much your body needs to recover and rebuild at any one given time. Your workout may have been a very intense one and you may trained numerous bodyparts at once.

Therefore you would need more protein intake. This is especially true post workout and before bedtime.

And as stated above, a combination of both Casein and Whey can give you the benefit of a slow and fast releasing protein at once.

My favourite: Dymatize's Elite 12 hour slow release protein. It tastes great and gives you Whey and Casein all at once so you can get the quick and slow, gradual benefits of high quality protein.

Default Check it out!

Muscles need amino acids to grow.Amino acids such as leucine are the building blocks of muscle proteins and serve as signaling chemicals that turn on protein sythesis.Researchers from Great Britain and the Netherlands found that protein synthesis was 20% higher in an exerscised leg compared to a none exerscised leg after eating a high protein meal. They studied the rate of muscle protein synthesis by measuring the muscle uptake of a labled AMINO ACID following unilaterial leg presses and leg extensions/ 1 leg exerscised while the other was inactive.(8 x 10 reps)They took muscle biopsies from both legs.A practical application of this study would be to consume a high protein energy bar or shake 30 minutes before a weight training workout.(Medicine and Science Sports Exercise,41:144-154,2009)

Good point. Pre-workout Whey protein is an excellent choice.
