Beginner Users
First time users (should be over 21 years of age) of prohormones (PH’s) should not be tempted by the use of the more potent AAS (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids). It's good to start out with a "mild" type of prohormone. By starting out with a mild compound, this allows individuals to get their feet wet in the world of AAS. Never stack two or more compounds on your first cycle as you are just getting started, and don't want to cause any unnecessary side-effect occurrences. I personally recommend H-Drol as the sides are very mild to nonexistent in most users. Although, some users may not experience any associated sides, this does not mean that you are in the clear. Users are still highly advised to plan for PCT and use a SERM, as you can still be shutdown. SERM is referred to as "Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator," used to control estrogen. I will explain its importance later on. Shutdown is the result of high amounts of testosterone being administered, which results in your body stopping the production of its own testosterone. This is commonly associated with hypogonadism, also known as the shrinking of the testes.

Cycle Length
Cycles with methylated PH’s should last no longer than 4-5 weeks at the recommended dosage. Limiting your cycle to this time period will relieve the stress being put on your liver from the methylated compounds. Temptation of running the pro-hormone past a period of 4-5 weeks should be avoided by new users, as gains are most likely to plateau around week 4-5. New users that continue to cycle past the suggested time frame should only expect side effects to heighten or become more exaggerated. Advanced users can quite possibly lengthen their methylated cycle to 6 weeks on certain compounds. This is not recommended for compounds with high toxicity risks such as Superdrol. Non-methylated compounds can be cycled for 8-10 weeks without the risking liver toxicity.
-Novice users:
o Limit cycle length to 4-5 weeks.
o Take the recommended dosage.
o Advanced users can cycle up to 6 weeks.

Non-Methylated Prohormones
Compounds without a methyl attachment are called non-methyl’s. These compounds are not as effective as methylated compounds on a milligram to milligram basis. However, these compounds are very effective when dosed at the correct amount and period of time. BOLD is a good example of non-methyl that will produce amazing gains without the risk of liver stress. BOLD's effectiveness should not be underestimated as individuals can experience the same side effects as methylated pro-hormones. Since there is a low to zero chance of liver toxicity from these compounds, cycle lengths can be ran to a period of 8 weeks. There have been some individuals who go over 8 weeks and into 10 weeks, but I believe this to be considerable among users who have experience with past cycles. New users or advanced users that want a liver friendly cycle will enjoy both steady strength and muscle gains that are comparable to four week methyl cycles if ran at the appropriate dose.
EX: Non-Methylated Prohormones:
o - BOLD
o - Propadrol
o - Furazadrol
o - Tren, Trenaplex, Trenadrol

PCT (Post Cycle Therapy)
PCT is a used practice when coming off of a cycle of AAS (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) to regain homeostasis of testosterone and estrogen and keep the gains of your cycle intact. This will be the most important part of keeping gains made "on cycle." If performed improperly, you risk losing gained muscle/strength and libido (not good). A very common occurrence when PCT is neglected is the formation of breast tissue around the nipples, called "gynecomastia." The use of a SERM is the best choice for accomplishing the prevention of breast tissue in PCT. A SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) should be the foundation of your PCT. Never start a cycle before obtaining all the necessary components of your PCT, and never leave your SERM out of the equation. You don’t want to be without SERM when your cycle ends or you could run into some estrogen related sides. Adding a SERM to your PCT is the most important recovery tool that is neglected by many users and usually ends up with a bundle of problems that could have been solved with the use of a SERM. Users may want to add a Natural Testosterone booster into PCT to bring sex drive/libido up to par if need be. Cortisol Controllers are not an essential either, but many believe in their use for fighting the catabolic effects one would see in PCT. Creatine (in my belief) should be an essential part of one’s PCT to keep muscle hydrated and strength levels high. Creatine is also a very useful anti-catabolic tool in PCT efforts. Dieting during PCT should be the same as "on cycle." With the newly acquired muscle there is a higher caloric intake that you must meet in order to retain new muscle mass. I cannot stress this fact enough to everyone; if you don’t eat and diet properly then you will be more than likely to lose gains, fast!

SERM
SERMs inhibit estrogen like actions in certain tissues of the body/ regulate estrogen to a manageable level in PCT. A SERM cannot and should not be a question when dealing with anything more than the suggested "mild" pro-hormones. Some will tell you that taking an O.T.C type PCT is ok, where an AI such as: "Novedex-XT," is the foundation for their Superdrol cycle. This is simply not true and is very misleading. To believe an individual will fully recover with a O.T.C product like Novedex-XT is ridiculous. Here are some general PCT plans for both mild and advanced compounds:

Sample PCT for mild PH cycle:
- AI: (6-OXO/Formestane/ATD)
o ---- Taper from max dosage week by week (4 weeks total)
o Natural Testosterone Booster (Blue-Up/Alpha Drive XL)
o ---- Run throughout the beginning of PCT.
o Liver care (Anabolic Innovations: Cycle Support)
o **optional** Cortisol control ( SNS: Reduce-XT)
o Creatine

Sample PCT for Advanced PH cycle:
o SERM (Nolvadex)
o ---- 40/40/20/20
o Natty Testosterone Booster
o Liver Care
o **optional** Cortisol Control
o Creatine

TIME OFF:
Taking time off from the use of pro-hormones/AAS is very important for continuing ones growth and health. Individuals need this time off from using hormonal substances to regain normal hormonal levels in your body. This allows your body time to fully recover from the hormonal havoc you've bestowed upon it for a period of time. Time off should be equal to the cycle length plus PCT.

Sample Time Off:
- Cycle length = 4 weeks
- PCT Length = 4 weeks
- Total time off = 8 weeks

By no means does this article contain everything you need to know before starting prohormone usage, but it should give you a good base knowledge. Do not start a cycle without doing the proper research on your own.



What's a prohormone? There's a little confusion about them circulating around these days. Prehormone might be a better term, because technically they are precursor molecules to the actual hormones in your body. For the weight lifting and bodybuilding communities, prohormones are usually designed to mimic testosterone. For all intents and purposes, prohormones are like steroids, but have not been made illegal.

Are anabolic steroids(AAS) better? Yes. But their illegality prevents many from obtaining them - and that's where prohormones come in. Supplement companies continue to develop compounds that mimic the action of AAS yet fly under the radar of the FDA based on chemical technicalities. There are prohormones that have been banned already, and while going after steroids and prohormones isn't exactly the most productive activity for the government to engage in when crackheads are out there vandalizing everything in sight, these chemicals have been vilified in our culture. Hence the companies producing them are typically coming up with newer, better products that some are even dubbing "Designer Steroids".

Who should take prohormones? First of all, only adults (21+) who know what they are doing. Just like with steroids, the user must have their training, diet, and most importantly, their actual cycle (and post-cycle!) planned according to their realistic goals. None of these compounds are magic free passes to Muscleland. Are you looking to gain weight or are you going to cut? It makes a difference. As we established earlier, PHs will mimic the effects of AAS, but through somewhat different chemical means to the same end. It is important that you understand that PHs are typically a bit harsher on the system - this is because most PHs are ingested, not injected. They must therefore be processed by your digestive system to get into your blood stream.

This is an obstacle to the molecule getting into the muscle. Because of the acidity of the stomach, just taking a drink of testosterone wouldn't do much for you because it would be broken down chemically into other compounds (hence why AAS are typically injected). To get around this, many PH products are methylated - they have been combined with another molecule to preserve them until they are actually out of the stomach and absorbed by the intestines into the bloodstream*. Solve one problem, cause another: methylated compounds are toxic to the liver. In controlled amounts, this is not a problem for a healthy adult, and the liver is able to recover when you end your cycle without a hitch.

*Note: Another pro of methylation is that it prevents aromatization - the process by which testosterone is converted to estrogen by aromatase.

So let's step back for a moment and review and synthesize what we covered so far:

Be over the age of 21 - you don't want to screw up your endocrine system by taking PHs too young.
You must have your training program and diet tweaked to near-perfection. Not even AAS are magic, nor are PHs.
Get a blood test to ensure that your liver and kidneys are healthy. Cholesterol is also a concern.
Do NOT consume alcohol when cycling a methylated PH. Don't hurt your liver like that.
Do NOT use PHs if you are an athlete that may be tested for steroids. You will fail the test.
Don't use PHs without a properly planned cycle and post-cycle therapy. Otherwise you will get the same side-effects as steroids. Do you really want a rash of acne, droopy man-boobs, a shrill voice, and shrunken testes? I didn't think so.

If I up my dose, will I get better gains? In a word, no. Your body can only utilize so much of the stuff. Anything going too much overboard will just mean extra work for your liver and kidneys, and may or may not be converted to estrogen, which will work against you like delicious free cake against a fat kid. So save your money and go with the recommended dose appropriate for your body weight.

I really can't drink while taking these? You really can't, if you want to protect your liver. If you can't give up alcohol to reach your goals (and if you are lifting, you should have already or at least cut back - alcohol gets aromatized into estrogen, didn't you know?) then you have very little business with prohormones.

What about the non-methylated stuff? Refer to the above question/answer.

How long can I cycle? How long before the next? A safe bet for noticeable results is a two month cycle at the recommended dosage. Your post-cycle will usually be half that time. However, this does not mean you should hit your next cycle when you wake up the next morning. Waiting the same amount of time off your cycle as on will give your body the time it needs to return its normal hormonal duties. If you violate this strong suggestion touted by practically everyone that knows anything about hormone manipulation, you will probably rue the day you popped your first PH.

So what's out there? What would you recommend? First of all, there is a wealth of knowledge out there waiting for you. Do some research, and in particular a great way to do so would be to seek out people that are similar to you - are you a short mesomorph, or a tall endomorph? Ask people like you who have had successful experiences. By no means should you blindly follow their advice, but it's a good reference point. Consult with a sports/nutrition coach that has experience training strength athletes, or a contest prep coach. These people should be quite knowledgeable in a way that most general practitionist doctors and nutritionists would be clueless.

Most prohormone substances will give you the effects of dulled-down anabolic steroids. However, they're cheaper, and most importantly, legal. (You also don't have to inject them - very good if you are needle-phobic.) One exception to this is 1-Testosterone. This compound does not require the body's assistance in changing it into a usable hormone; yet had evaded the FDA's banhammer because it is a naturally occurring compound. Unfortunately it eventually did find its way to the illegals list. Chances are, you don't even need AAS or other illegal compounds to achieve your goals if you get your ducks in a line and supplement your regimen with PHs.

With a little investigation, it shouldn't be hard to determine what's best for you. Good lifting!

INTRODUCTION
There has been so much said about prohormone products recently, and it seems to cause a buzz in every gym. Are they effective? Yes, for the most part. Are they for everyone? Certainly not. Are they safe? Yes, for the most part. I use prohormones, and have done a few cycles, but I am going to say that they are simply not for everyone and people should educate themselves before deciding whether or not to use them. Learn the facts rather than believing what the uneducated and ignorant people have to say about them. There are several different types of prohormones as well as several different methods of delivery. In this article I will attempt to explain the differences, talk about the pros and cons of Andro use, proper dosing and dieting, as well as who should not be using them.

In this article I’ll be referring to Androdiol, otherwise known as 4-Androstenediol or 4AD, because that is what I have the most experience with and what is used most in the bodybuilding community. Also mentioned will be 4-Norandrodiol, otherwise known as Norandrostenediol. These are both the 4 versions.

DELIVERY METHODS/TYPES OF PROHORMONES
There are several different types of delivery methods. I will touch upon four of them here listing them in order of effectiveness with the most effective listed last. The most effective is also the least commonly used due to the simplicity of the other methods.
1) Basic Oral (by the mouth)
2) Sublingual (under the tongue)
3) Nasal Spray
4) Transdermal (through the skin)

CYCLING:
It is important to cycle off prohormones for a minimum of the equal amount of time you have been on them. Do not continue to use them for more than 6 weeks consecutively. Failure to cycle off may result in the shutdown of your natural testosterone production. Once it shuts down, the prohormones are not strong enough to maintain average baseline testosterone. Signs of shutdown include lethargy, decrease in strength, muscle loss, and loss of sex drive and/or function. Most people currently advocate much shorter prohormone cycles with much higher doses. I believe that limiting a cycle to less than six weeks will significantly reduce the chances of natural testosterone production shutdown as well as reducing the potential for other androgenic effects. The shorter cycle will require much higher doses and doses which will enable sustained testosterone elevation throughout the day and evening. I believe that the reason why steroid users will lose much of their gains after stopping a cycle is due to the fact that too long of a cycle has inhibited natural production of testosterone.

PROTEIN SYNTHESIS AND DIET:
Elevated testosterone improves protein synthesis, which is the key to muscle repair, recovery and eventual growth. Increased protein synthesis cannot occur without adequate protein on a regular basis. Given this, one must consume a minimum of five servings of protein daily. That is the MINIMUM an more is generally required for the advanced lifter. One's dietary habits and protein consumption are a critical element in muscle building and in the absence of adequate protein or calories; muscles simply will not grow no matter how high your testosterone levels are elevated.

Before even considering prohormone usage, one should take a good look at his eating habits. Generally a simple change to a bodybuilders type diet will bring about incredible gains, without prohormones. If the diet and training routine are already in place and you have hit a wall, than prohormones may be for you.

PROHORMONES AND BEGINNERS:
Those who are new to weightlifting or those who have "played around" with weights without ever getting serious are not candidates for prohormones. Myself, I spent several years lifting weights regularly without making much progress. When I changed my diet and made a commitment to stick to it, my gains were outrageous, and with little to no supplementation at all. People sometimes lose sight of the fact that a supplement is just that; a "supplement" to a proper training and nutrition program. My advice to a beginner, or someone who is just now becoming serious about his training is to wait on the prohormones. Follow the right training routine and diet and the gains will come. Once you find the gains slowing than perhaps you may choose to give prohormones a try. Prohormones are for the advanced and educated lifter.

Teenagers should not use prohormones. That's as plain as I can say it. A teenager using any Andro product is at risk of experiencing premature bone end closure. Translation; you will stop growing. With normally high testosterone levels anyway, it simply is not worth the risk.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Let us not underestimate the potential for side effects with high doses of prohormone use. As mentioned earlier, the more prohormone one uses, the greater the risk of experiencing negative side effects. Now don't get me wrong, these cases are quite rare, however the possibilities do exist and it's only fair that I point them out. Some have experienced side effects such as acne, gyno, loss of hair and shutdown of the natural testosterone production. Most users experience no negative side effects even at very high doses, but even so, it is wise to be aware of the potential.

CONCLUSION:
Prohormones can be quite effective for the seasoned lifter; however, they should only be used by someone who is willing to follow a proper diet. They should not be used by beginners or by teenagers. Also, my advice is to first take a look at your diet and training routine and see where improvements can be made. Once again, I made the greatest gains of my life simply by changing my diet. UR

According to the FDA, Myogenix Spawn is actually Madol/Tren and NOT Epi/Tren.

Question question on Dragon

I'm going on to me 3rd week of Dragon, not double dragon. Gained about 10 lbs of muscle so far ;]

My question: Since the label on my PH says that it does not "aromatize estrogen"-- does that mean that I do NOT need to use a SERM at the end of my cycle?
