Default Amps

OK i know amps are much less expensive than vials, and i a ssume its because of ease of use and vials mean no glass in your gear. I purchased an amp opener and some sterile gear to move my product from amp to vial. does an amp opener greatly reduce the chance of contaminating my gear.

bro just leave the amps alone untill you are ready to use them no need to transfer from amp to vile. those amp openers suck by the way. get yourself a good sharpe serrataed knife score around the line on the amp neck, and then snap that baby should be no shards of glass at all make sure you always swab your amps with alcahol before you open them I think you have a greater risk of contamination if you start transferring things BEST OF LUCK

Only open the amps when you are ready to use them. Cannonball is right just swab them down.

Also may want to use a paper towel to hold the amp when snapping it.

The other guys are right, do not transfer to vials you run a huge risk of contamination - the vial, stopper, air, etc.

definately use a folded up paper towel or wad of toilet paper and 9 out of 10 times you'll snap it clean.

K, I'm gonna go out on my own and say that I disagree with everyone here...

There's nothing wrong with transferring from amps to vials, provided you take the appropriate precautions...It's no different from transferring from sachets to vials, which I've done numerous times...

It's no different from taking HCG from an amp, reconstituting it and transferring it into a vial...

In fact, it's much more convenient in a vial than having to open up all kinds of amps on injection days...

a small set of diamond files from ebay ($10) works better than anything for getting those "sometimes" stubborn amps to open.

Agreed on the condition that appropriate precautions are taken. The problem is that a lot of times they are not...

Peace,

Default How we do it in the hospital

1) Ampule preparation:
a) Tap top of bottle lightly and quickly with finger until fluid moves from neck of ampule.
b) Place small gauze pad or unopened alcohol swap around neck of ampule.
c) Snap neck quickly and firmly away from hands.
d) Draw up medication quickly, using filter needle long enough to reach bottom of ampule.
e) Hold ampule upside down, or set it on a flat surface. Insert filter needle into center of ampule opening. Do not allow needle tip or shaft to touch rim of ampule.
f) Aspirate medication into syringe by gently pulling back on plunger.
g) Keep needle under surface of liquid. Tip ampule to bring all fluid within reach of needle.
h) If air bubbles are aspirated, do not expel air into ampule.
i) To expel excess air bubbles, remove needle from ampule. Hold syringe with needle pointing up. Tap side of syringe to cause air bubbles to rise toward needle. Draw back slightly on plunger, and then push plunger upward to eject air. Do not eject fluid.
j) If syringe contains extra fluid, use sink for disposal. Hold syringe vertically with needle tip up and slanted slightly toward sink. Slowly eject excess fluid into sink. Recheck volume of medication in syringe by holding in vertically.
k) Cover needle with its safety sheath or cap. Replace filter needle with needle for injection.

You are correct. There is nothing wrong with transferring it as long as use aseptic technique. Many meds come in a powder form and are reconstituted to a liquid form. Ask any pharmacist or pharmacy tech. Thankfully, they usually do this for us so we don't have to on the floor. This helps eliminate errors and saves time. Just remember to use aseptic technique.
