LOL watcha video on you tube, it uses the centripetal force as resistance and the movement of your arm keeps it spinning... I don'w know if you have ever take a bike rim off a bike and spun it holding the axle, but its super hard to rotate against the direction the rim is spinning, its the same idea.

The inner ball spins really fast as you torque the gyro around. Once it spins up its there is resistance to turn it and the more you turn it the faster it gets. It works your forearms rather well but my plastic version broke from being dropped. Be cool to get a metal one shown but I don't have $120 to drop on one of these.
